Will Chelsea move Torres on?
After failing to score yesterday for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge against Sunderland, despite putting in a good shift, is time running out for Spanish striker Fernando Torres at the West London club?
Torres of course arrived in January 2011 in a much heralded move from Liverpool which saw the British transfer fee record smashed, with Chelsea paying Liverpool a staggering £50 million for the former Atletico Madrid striker.
Yet the 27 year old has had what can only be described as a torrid time at Stamford Bridge, netting a paltry return of 3 Premier League goals in 30 appearances. Equating to a massive £16.7 million per goal.
Whilst it was clear in his final months at Anfield, Torres who was returning from injury was not at his sharpest, the goal drought he has experienced thus far at Chelsea, is likely not the player’s fault.
Indeed it is more endemic of the system and style that Chelsea play, which does not lend itself to the Spaniard’s strengths.
When I saw him up close for the first time this season last week in the FA Cup. Torres’s movement off the ball and positioning was first class and had his team mates bother to look up on at least one occasion, they would have seen Torres unmarked in a clear goal scoring position.
For the player and Chelsea, unless Villas-Boas starts playing to Torres’s strengths, it would therefore be best for all parties concerned to draw a line under Torres’s Chelsea career and allow the 27 year old to move on.
But would Chelsea recoup anything near the amount they paid Liverpool?
Time will tell I guess.

Even when Torres is playing it is not enough is it now? he put up a great performance yesterday, and had he been a bit lucky he would have scored. leave the guy alone.

I really rate Torres. Hence the tone of the article. He was different class yesterday and last week when I saw Chelsea. But for some reason Chelsea do not play to his strengths. Hence the lack of goals and strikers will always be judged on their goals.

Torres is a good player and will soon start scouring goals for chelsea buh avb should inform torres to start playing short straight into the net when he is inside the box eight instead of dribbling.

Why people always focus on striker not scoring goal, look at Torres current form, 5 assists in 4 matches, and clearly got a penalty but stupid referee given dive, if penalty score by Lampard, Torres will got another assist in record. When u score, everyone remember u, but their never remember who create so hard to give others teammate good opportunity to score. And guess what, how many time unlucky Torres have hit the bar for Chelsea, i have see more than 5 time this session, if he can score those goals, who say Torres was a flop.

Sorry mate but this deal will never happen, if anyone heard AVB press conference last yr he sad Torres is not for sale at any price and that he will be a Chelsea player for yrs to come. That says it all but once again the journilist who this story does know nothing about Chelsea or football in general. Big up the mighty blues!!

i think torres is fine but chelsea should play him with quick passes through the shoulder of the defence,
like he did that a few times in man utd – chelsea;
barcelona also plays this way!
he played so well as a midfielder recently, his passing was amazing
showing he has an excellent footballing brain, also shows how he wants to be served balls when upfront!
ps: torres had at least the last 6 months when he did not play well for liverpool either, with bought him with the problem already affecting him;

It was one of the best performance I saw Torres play Saturday. Torres was fantastic, Chelsea really needs to get him more involved in the game. Our team don’t pass to him alot when his is in space. Chelsea need Eden hazard both hazard and Mata can assist Torres more.
