United and Arsenal chasing Argentinean midfielder

Manchester United and Arsenal face a tough battle if they are to sign Anderlecht’s 25 year old Argentinean international Lucas Biglia.

Reports in Belgian media claim that senior officials at Anderlecht have confirmed enquiries from both United and Arsenal for Biglia, but that the club are doing all they can to hold onto one of their key players.

Biglia, 25, is a deep lying midfielder who has battling qualities similar to compatriot Mascherano, but more importantly the technique and vision to be able to build attacks from the back. He was an integral part of the Argentina under 20 World Cup winning squad, playing alongside Lionel Messi and built a solid reputation back in his home country following some impressive performances with Independiente prior to moving to Europe.

Whilst Biglia would be unlikely to pitch in with goals (he has scored on average once every 51 appearances in Belgium) he would bring both stability and a calmness to both sides.

Biglia, who once won the Young Footballer of the Year award in Belgium has been on United’s and Arsenal’s radar for quite some time. However both clubs are now acting with added urgency given their respective injury lists and a loss of form to some players.
