Sunderland poised to complete Bridge deal

Sunderland are close to signing Manchester City’s former England full back Wayne Bridge, with the 31 year old due in Sunderland for a medical, ahead of a move which is set to be completed later today.

The former Chelsea left back who has been capped 36 times for England has been linked with several clubs over the past few months, yet it looks like the persuasive powers of new Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill have been decisive in sealing the deal.

Having only played the once for high flying City this season, it is likely that should the transfer go ahead that Bridge will slot straight into the left back berth at the Stadium of Light.
