Pienaar Everton reunion unlikely

goodison 150x112 Pienaar Everton reunion unlikelyEverton defender John Heitinga has poured cold water on suggestions that former teammate Steven Pienaar is set to re-sign for Everton.

Heitinga was speaking to local journalists when he said that whilst the club and his teammates would be ready to welcome back Pienaar with open arms, financial difficulties make any such deal unlikely.

Pienaar joined Tottenham from Everton last January in a £3million deal and, despite only making a handful of appearances for Tottenham in what has been a torrid spell, Spurs are thought to be holding out to make a profit on their initial outlay. That effectively rules Everton out of the race to sign the South African midfielder.

QPR, Aston Villa and Fulham are each reported to be interested in signing Pienaar, who himself is ready to call time on his unsuccessful White Hart Lane stay.

Whilst Tottenham would prefer to move Pienaar on, they are hoping to extract as much cash as they can by encouraging a bidding war. It seems likely, therefore, that any deal for Pienaar is likely to take place nearer the end of the transfer window.
