Liverpool priced out of move for Defoe
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is to quote Liverpool a price tag of £20 million for striker Jermain Defoe, in a move that is likely to make Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish look elsewhere for a new striker.
As we reported last week, Liverpool are keen on landing England international Defoe and had budgeted around £10 million to sign him.
However, reports suggest that Levy who is known as a hard bargainer when it comes to transfer dealings, is holding out for twice the amount that Liverpool are prepared to pay for Defoe.
Dalglish is looking to take advantage of Harry Redknapp’s pursuit of Marseille forward Loic Remy, but after Tottenham were quoted in excess of £20 million for Remy, this has made Levy reassess the valuation of Tottenham’s own players.
