Liverpool agree deal to sign ‘the new Deco’

anfield 150x150 Liverpool agree deal to sign the new DecoLiverpool have agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon to sign promising midfielder João Carlos according to the Guardian.

Carlos came to prominence last year during the NextGen youth tournament – a Champions League style tournament for youth teams, where he was first spotted by Liverpool scouts and targeted thereafter at the insistence of Liverpool’s academy technical manager Jose Segura.

The Primeira League club has a reputation for producing outstanding talent to include the likes of Figo, Ronaldo and Nani.

At just 19 years old, the midfielder who’s attacking style of play has been likened to compatriot Deco, commands a fee believed to be just shy of £1million despite not making a senior first-team appearance for the side. Despite being highly-rated, Sporting have reluctantly agreed to sell due to ongoing financial difficulties.

The deal is Liverpool’s first foray into the January transfer window and continues Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli’s plan to invest in youth.
