Everton line up move for Gibson

goodison 150x112 Everton line up move for Gibson Everton boss David Moyes is planning his first foret into the January transfer market with a move for Manchester United’s forgotten midfielder Darren Gibson.

It’s understood that the 24 year old would cost the Toffees around £2million which fits with the clubs limited transfer budget.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this term and his discretion just after Christmas will not have helped his cause.

Gibson, along with team-mates Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans were lambasted by Sir Alex Ferguson after a night out on Boxing Day and each fined a week’s wages. It was his abject performance at training the following morning that angered his manager the most however.

In an effort to play himself into Trapattoni’s Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming European Championship, Gibson is thought to be keen on a move away from the club he joined as a 17 year old in 2004.

Moyes is hoping to do better than former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce did in the summer when a proposed move collapsed over personal terms.

The Toffees boss had been hoping to sign a striker in January but may need to give more thought to central defence, with England international Phil Jagielka out for six weeks with a knee injury and Sylvain Distin suffering a hamstring injury at White Hart Lane.

Moyes however may need to strengthen his squad with a limited budget depsite receiving £10million following the sale of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal in the summer.

The Scot confirmed prior to Wednesday’s 2 -0 defeat at Tottenham that he was unlikely to see any of the Arteta transfer fee which went straight to the club’s bankers.

Everton had to pay £1.2m of the Arteta fee to his former club Real Sociedad while it is understood around £2m has been spent on new contracts and deals such as the one which brought Landon Donovan back to Goodison Park from LA Galaxy for a short loan spell.
