Bristol City agree fee for Aberdeen captain Foster

ashtongate2 150x112 Bristol City agree fee for Aberdeen captain FosterAberdeen’s versatile captain Ricky Foster is on the verge of becoming Derek McInnes’ first permanent signing as Bristol City manager according to BBC Scotland.

The 26 year old still has 18 months remaining on his current deal and although Dons boss Craig Brown can ill afford to lose one of his better players given their current position in the SPL, the wages on offer in the Championship will far outweigh the defenders current offering.

Both clubs are understood to have agreed an undisclosed fee rumoured to be in the region of £250,000 and the right back come winger is expected to travel south for a medical on Friday ahead of completing his move.

Foster came through the youth ranks at Pittodrie and after making his debut aged 17, superseded former City midfielder Paul Hartley as club captain. He has made 294 appearances for the Dons and has been an ever present this term.

He spent the 2010/11 season on loan to Rangers in a swap deal for striker Andrius Velicka and helped the Glasgow outfit retain the Scottish championship as well as making appearances in both the Champions League and Europa League.

McInnes, who took up the reins at Ashton Gate In October after managing St Johnstone has been stongly linked with a return to the Scottish Premier League to strengthen his squad during January.

Having been linked with Rangers full-back Kirk Broadfoot, Hearts want-away midfielder Ryan Stevenson and Saints pair Francisco Sandaza and Murray Davidson, McInnes has said to have made extending Derby County midfielder Stephen Pearson’s stay with City as his priority.

Foster however could beat his fellow Scotsman to being the manager’s first January acquisition.

Two players have already departed City this week, with striker Marlon Jackson joining Telford United on loan and Jamaican defender Damion Stewart farmed out to Notts County.

McInnes is keen to reduce his wage bill before he looks to make further signings but has already targeted a commanding centre-back and big target man and January promises to be a busy time at Ashton Gate.
