Gotze prefers a Spanish adventure
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United’s hopes of landing long term target Mario Gotze have been dealt a significant blow.
Although it was unlikely that either club would sign Gotze during the upcoming January transfer window due to Borussia Dortmund’s strong desire to keep hold of him, any potential move to the Premier League appears to be even further away as the midfielder is quoted in one of Germany’s leading newspapers as saying his dream is to play in Spain with either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Gotze, 19, is a product of Dortmund’s youth academy and he rose to prominence when Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp promoted him to the first-team squad part-way through the 2009/10 season. Since then he has established himself as a real goal-threat from the centre of the park, whilst he has created plenty for his teammates around him.
There are no signs of unrest by the player nor is there a suggestion that his comments are inviting offers from Spain’s ‘big two’. Gotze has previously suggested that he would like to remain with Dortmund until the end of his current contract (which expires at the culmination of the 2013/2014 season) and his comments have not been interpreted as anything more than a direct answer to a loaded question.
